About Us

Gore Health Ltd is a locally governed company, responsible for the operation of Gore Hospital, a small modern community owned primary care facility, which opened in May 1999, after the closure of Seddon Memorial Hospital.  Gore & Districts Health Incorporated  (GDHI) is the sole shareholder of Gore Health Ltd and has both elected and appointed local community representatives on its Board.  Through the GDHI board, our community has ownership of the hospital building and plant and this is leased back to Gore Health Ltd.  We are an innovative, not for profit company, always looking to improve and expand on the services we provide to our community.

Our base funding comes from the Southern District Health Board and we work with them to develop a funding contract that specifies the range and volumes of public health services to deliver to our community.  We have private contracts that provide us with additional revenue and we are also grateful for the donations we receive from our very supportive local community.

At Gore Hospital we offer a range of both public and private integrated services including inpatient services (16 beds),  24hr Emergency Department cover, Birthing and Postnatal services (4 beds), a GP practice, a Dental practice, Specialist Outpatient Clinics, Allied and Community Health Services, MoleMap, Laboratory Testing, Radiology, Mobile Surgical Services and private ACC related contracts.  For more details on these see our "Services" section.

Our facility has Ministry of Health certification having met the stringent Health and Disability Sector Standards for providing safe health and disability services to the public.  Our maternity unit has also achieved Baby Friendly Health Initiative accreditation to the New Zealand Breastfeeding Authority standards.

We are committed to improving the health of our community by providing a high quality, patient focused, health care service at Gore Hospital and are continually making every effort to improve the quality and range of our services.  We strive to have a service that satisfies the needs and expectations of our patients and the community.  We welcome constructive comments and feedback that will assist in providing that service.

The Treaty of Waitangi has significant implications for the delivery of health services.  As an aspect of our commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, Gore Health Ltd endeavours to demonstrate its principles in the operation of our services at Gore Hospital, and to have informed staff that is responsive to Maori and their health, cultural needs, values and beliefs. We recognise the importance of whanau and their involvement in patient care and acknowledge the right for Maori to practice their cultural values and beliefs while receiving services at Gore Hospital.
