Bret Highsted

Bret was born and raised in Gore. After leaving school in 1985, he began working for the local branch of the National Bank. In 1990, he moved to Dunedin to continue his career in finance, where he rose through the ranks to became the Senior Manager of Corporate Commercial Banking. In 2002, he came back to Gore to work as General Manager of New Vale Coal, his family's mining business. In 2007, he was elected to the Gore District Council, where he currently chairs Regulatory and Planning. He also started working as the Chief Financial Officer at the Tulloch Group of Companies. Bret has also held board member positions in various companies, including Invest South Ltd.

Appointed to the GHL Board in 2010, Bret said he enjoys governance roles where he is able to utilise his diverse business experience. He likes that GHL has a vibrant board and feels very privileged to work with such a highly regarded CEO.

Bret is married to Nicky and they have four children. His hobbies include cycling, motorbikes, snow and water skiing, travel and supporting his children in their respective sports.
