MoleMap

Gore Health has the MoleMap franchise for the Southland, Otago and South Canterbury regions.  We hold regular private MoleMap clinics at Gore Hospital, Invercargill, Dunedin, and Timaru.  Clinics are also scheduled in other rural areas at various times throughout the year. 

MoleMap is a diagnostic dermoscopy method used to map, categorise and diagnose moles which are at risk of developing into melanoma or other skin cancers.  State of the art digital photography is used to photograph and catalogue all moles. 

The imaging is undertaken by our team of Melanographers (specially trained Registered Nurses) who have achieved certification in the field of skin cancer and dermoscopy. From these images, specialist dermatologists provide diagnosis. MoleMap's access to specialist dermatologists for quick review and diagnosis of suspicious lesions offers unparalleled service within our region.

Regular follow-up examinations then allow comparisons of the scans over time, detecting any problems at an early stage.

MoleMap is ideal for those who fall into any of the following categories:

  • Personal or family history of skin cancer
  • Excessive exposure to the sun (particularly at childhood)
  • Many large, unusual or irregular moles  - atypical mole syndrome; or
