Today, Gore Health serves a population of approximately 20,000 people across Gore, West Otago and surrounding districts. Our modern healthcare campus combines hospital services with General Practice, diagnostics, allied health and specialist care, allowing patients to access many of the services they need without travelling further afield.

Healthcare has been at the heart of Gore for well over a century.
From 1909 until its closure in 1999, Seddon Memorial Hospital provided essential healthcare services for Gore and the surrounding districts. With 130 inpatient beds, maternity services, aged care and a respected nurse training programme, it became an important part of the region's history.
When plans were announced to centralise hospital services in Invercargill during the 1980s, the Gore community united to protect local healthcare.
Residents worked tirelessly through submissions, public meetings, letter-writing campaigns and advocacy to ensure quality healthcare remained available locally.
Their determination paid off.
On 3 May 1999, the new community-owned Gore Hospital officially opened on Birch Lane, continuing the proud tradition of providing quality healthcare close to home.
Today's Gore Health stands as a lasting reminder of what a determined community can achieve when it works together.

Gore Health is operated by Gore Health Ltd, a locally governed organisation whose sole shareholder is Gore & Districts Health Incorporated (GDHI).
The hospital building and facilities are owned by the local community through GDHI and leased to Gore Health Ltd, ensuring the organisation remains closely connected to the people it serves.
Alongside funding from Health New Zealand, Gore Health is fortunate to receive ongoing support from generous donors and the wider community. These contributions help enhance facilities, expand services and continue investing in local healthcare for future generations.
